E-Books to Replace Textbooks

What is it?
An e-book (short for electronic book,or EBook), also known as a digital book, is an equivalent of a conventional printed book. E-books are usually read on dedicated devices known as e-Readers or e-book devices. Personal computers and some cell phones can also be used to read e-books.

How can you use it?
Electronic learning is certainly not new. Many schools have implemented technologies that allow books and curriculum to be viewed digitally. Schools can choose this textbook-free option, where all the material a student needs is either on their computers or readily downloaded online.
Why would you use it?
  • In the space that a comparably sized print book takes up, an e-reader can potentionally contain thousands of e-books, limited by its memory capacity. If space is at a premium, such as in a backpack or at home, it can be an advantage that an e-book takes up little room.
  • Other advantages in clude: availability, language accessibility, costs, security, distrubution and enfironmental concerns.
  • Disadvantages include: changing technologies, availability of works, power and shelf life, durability, limitations of readers.
